School Theme Baby Shower for Teachers (and Education Lovers!)

ABC Book School Edition Samantha B Design-jpg.jpg

Planning a Baby Shower for a teacher in your life? This is the perfect way to celebrate their new little one. I used a combination of classic vintage schoolhouse theme along with chalk boards, red apples, cursive, yellow pencils and stacks of old and new children’s books. Much of this theme can be pulled together with what you already have. And the best part was having each guest color a page from my new Baby’s First ABC Book (School Theme)! The Baby’s First ABC Book is not only a great baby shower activity for anyone, it’s also a great teacher appreciation gift from the class for a teacher that’s expecting. It includes the class in the excitement and gives the a teacher a sweet keepsake of memories.

I created a table runner out of lined D'nealian paper by stapling pages together in a long line. Nothing had to be perfect and it came together so quickly. So simple to create and it would also work well for a photo backdrop or wall hanging. The vintage copy of Wizard of Oz was from my Dad’s childhood collection. I also had access to (too many!) children’s books to display around the room. Accents of black and white dishes and decor with pops of red apples along with jars of yellow pencils and stacks of children’s books all around. Chalkboard signs were also perfect to direct guests throughout the shower.

My illustrated School Theme ABC Book is the perfect baby shower activity and keepsake to complete the theme! Each guest lovingly colored and signed a page for baby. The ABC Book pages double as a decoration—I hung them on a clothesline which made it easy for guests to choose their page to color. Then when they were done coloring, they hung them back up to display! Another great option would be to have small clipboards ready for guests to use as they color their pages. Then all the pages can be laminated and bound or put into a photo album. (See my ABC Book Template post about how to print and book and put it together.)

The School Theme Illustrated ABC Book comes in 3 different page size options, as well as downloadable PDFs that you print yourself or 4x6” printed cards with photo album ready to go! See all the options in my Etsy Shop here.

Free Sloth Valentine's Day Coloring Sheet PDF Download | Great class party idea!

Sloth Valentine Coloring Sheet.jpg

If ever a coloring sheet made me go “squeeeee!” it’s this FREE Sloth Valentine’s Day Coloring Page. We have several sloth friends in our house—it all started with Mose, a slap bracelet sloth stuffed animal that has basically become our family mascot. I even took Mose with me to London last year so I could share photos with the kids of him touring the sites. Funny thing was, while riding the London Eye, I was oblivious to an American couple as they got engaged. Meanwhile, I was having my own little photo shoot with Mose. I looked up in time to see everybody else on the other side of the capsule watching the happy couple just behind me. (Basically, I’m pretty sure there’s a crazy lady taking photos of a stuffed sloth in the background of most of their engagement photos and video. WHOOPS!)

As some parents of little one’s know, it’s sometimes hard (ie. time consuming) to include your small children in helping with a task like wrapping presents. So finding a task for them that occupies them for a bit and makes them feel included is a win-win.

I’ve put together these adorable Christmas Gift Tags that you can personalize and print. Then let your little one color and decorate them while you wrap presents. (Or let’s be honest, while you partially wrap a present, get someone a cup of water, respond to a text message, let the dog in, clean up a spilled drink, and hopefully finish wrapping at least one gift.)

6 unique tags in all! Type the name in or delete the name and write it yourself after printing.

  4. Print on white 8.5x11” card stock.

  5. Trim along gray border (works well with a paper trimmer or X-acto knife/ruler to trim or trim with scissors).

Kid’s LOVE seeing their names in print and it’s an accessible activity for all ages. Plus it’s personal and meaningful!

ABC Book Template for a Baby Shower Activity

ABC Book Download for Baby Shower Activity

by Samantha Brynn

Looking for a fun and casual Baby Shower activity with lasting memories? Make an ABC Book for baby! It’s a low-pressure activity that guests can take their time on throughout the shower, or a perfect ice breaker activity as guests arrive.

A good friend of mine is blessed to be having a baby boy in about a month. This baby will join his two big sisters and a plethora of cousins & family that are all very excited about his arrival. My friend’s sisters hosted a wonderful baby shower last month and I was thrilled to share my Baby’s First ABC Book for the guests to color.

Baby Boy Shower Ideas 1

Though I do have a Blank ABC Book Template that allows you the flexibility of guests drawing any theme/design for the shower, some guests might not be thrilled about creating their own drawings from scratch. The custom illustrated ABC Book makes it easy for guests to choose a page to color while keeping the style consistent throughout the book. (UPDATE: I now also have a School Themed Illustrated ABC Book that is perfect for any teacher that’s expecting a baby!)

Guests loved coloring the pages of this book throughout their time at the baby shower and it was a great activity that included ALL ages! Grandparents and cousins, friends and co-workers joined together to create this book for baby. Then they could sign their name at the bottom of the page. Many guests continued to color while Mom and Dad opened presents which allowed for a fun and casual atmosphere.

ABC Book Ideas

The best part about these ABC Books is the personalization! The PDFs are set up so you can type in Baby’s name on the front cover and the tent sign before you print. Also available are adorable personalized pages that can replace certain letters in the book. At my friend’s baby shower, I included 2 personalized pages for this baby’s two big sisters. (Example: “E is for Emily” would replace the “E is for Elephant” page). When you purchase a personalized page, you can choose from several different illustration options whether it’s a Boy, Girl, or Swaddled Baby!

Personalized pages are the gift that keeps on giving. Print as many as you need for personal use!

Seeing the complete book at the end of the baby shower was wonderful. In a matter of a couple hours, a lovingly-made ABC Book was complete and ready to cherish for years. It’s also a great reminder of the guests that attended the baby shower--A guest book of sorts.

Here’s the Easy how-to of making an ABC Book Station at a Baby Shower:

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • ABC Book Template (PDF Download, 3 different sizes available: 4x6”, 5x7”, or 8.5x11”)

  • White Cardstock (I prefer 110lb. White Index Card Stock, 8.5x11” Letter Paper)

  • Colored Pencils (recommended over crayons)

  • Pencil Sharpener

OPTIONAL MATERIALS:

  • Plastic Photo Album (Something like this from Amazon, or you could have the book laminated and bound at a print shop)

  • Adobe Reader (To open the PDF and type Baby’s name in)

  • Cutting Board, Xacto Knife and Ruler (If trimming pages yourself, or this can be done by the print shop for a minimal cost--much easier and faster!)

  • Container for the Colored Pencils (Glass Jars, for example)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Download the ABC Book Template directly from Etsy after your purchase.

  2. Make sure you have Adobe Reader installed if you’d like to personalize the ABC Book cover or the tent sign before printing. When you open the file, type directly over the “Baby’s” text in the file.

  3. Print on white cardstock, preferably on a Laser Printer.

  4. For 4x6” or 5x7” size pages, trim the pages to the crop marks with either a cutting board/Xacto knife/Ruler or, better yet, ask a print shop to trim at the crop marks.

  5. Color the Tent Sign before the shower to add some color and inspire guests.

OPTIONAL! Consider hanging the cards from a clothesline so that guests can easily choose their page to color, plus it’s a great way to display everyone’s artwork after they are done.

The Top 5 Inexpensive Colored Pencils for the Non-Artist

I’m asked all the time about the best tools to use to color my Baby’s First ABC Coloring Books. Though I’ve used Copic Markers for some of my work and yes, they are amazing, I realize that Colored Pencils are a much more practical and economical for a baby shower activity...
